As you get to know our Wines, our Vineyard, and our Estate, we hope you will be sure to learn many of our nearly-legendary stories…like the stories behind our Goat Wines: where our goats persistently ate our painstakingly, hand-planted vines down to stubs….vines Joel had labored tirelessly to plant in 100+ degree weather! The joy of giving those goats away sparked inspiration for our Lucky Goat, our Goats of Wrath, our Wandering Goat, and more! And the name isn’t all that’s great about these wines, we are often told by customers new and old that our wines are among the best they’ve ever tasted!

Backporch Winery is located in a quiet and relaxing part of King George County. Since first opening our doors in 2020, we are thankful to have met so many people, and even more thankful that more people keep coming back. Brought together by our love of wine and good times, the Backporch community has quickly grown into a family that we LOVE doing life with.

The museum, which opened in October 2013, aims to preserve the story of Dahlgren through exhibits and special programs. The center functions as both a tourism support site and living museum with a robust array of programs that help tell the story of the Navy base at Dahlgren.

The King George Farmers’ Market features fresh produce, meat, fish, baked goods, plants, crafts, and other items from Virginia’s Northern Neck and surrounding areas. It takes place from 8 AM – 12 PM every Saturday from the last weekend in April through the end of October at the King George Middle School on Kings Highway. On the first Saturday of every month, the market hosts a Community Day where outside groups can also set up at the market. Special family friendly events include fair days, holiday celebrations, and cooking demonstrations. Check the Facebook page for upcoming events.

Full service, family oriented marina on Machodoc Creek. Located just one mile off the Potomac River in King George County VA, just south of the 301/Harry Nice Bridge. Marina includes 64 slips, 8 of which are covered. Non-Ethanol fuel available

The University of Mary Washington – Dahlgren Campus is a multi-institution post-graduate center for education and research located in King George, Virginia. UMW-Dahlgren delivers science- and engineering-focused academic courses taught locally and via distance-learning from Virginia’s state universities.

Visitors can launch canoes and kayaks in order to enjoy the splendors of the river. Bald eagle, osprey, herons, and terns are abundant and easily visible to wildlife enthusiasts. Free access

The King George County Museum is located in the King George Courthouse complex, in the old jail. Artifacts range from prehistoric to the present. A research library is a popular feature.

Ralph Bunche High School was a school constructed in 1949 as a result of Civil Action 631 to provide “separate but equal” education for African-American students in King George County, Virginia. The school operated until 1968 when King George High School was completed and the county’s schools integrated.

An Organization of Baptist churches from DC, MD, & VA that owns the Mt. Bethel Christian Center—one of the largest African American-owned waterfront properties on the east coast located in King George, Virginia.

Park consists of three softball fields, little league field, concession stand, basketball courts, picnic pavilions, soccer fields, hiking area, nature trails, playground, horseshoe pits.

Originally the King George County landfill, this site was transformed into a place for county residents to enjoy sports and other recreational activities. Formerly called Shiloh Park, it was renamed Cedell Brooks, Jr. Park in October 2017 in honor of a longstanding county supervisor.

A National Natural Landmark known for its old growth forest and summer home to many American bald eagles, Caledon attracts bird watchers of all ages. Trails, including Boyd’s Hole Trail, which leads to the Potomac River, are open year-round. A visitor center with bald eagle exhibits, four picnic areas, a picnic shelter and restrooms also are available.

The DRHT is a 15.7-mile (25.3 km) trail from the western edge of King George County to the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division. Intended for use as a public “Rails-to-Trails” project, the trail winds through rural King George and accommodates non-motorized, recreational users including hikers, bikers, horseback riders, and runners.
